Kudos to Mayor Oscar Goodman. Las Vegas always seems to be able to reinvent itself and in these challenging economic times, what Las Vegas needs is a real shot in the arm. Las Vegas will be home to the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute and Dr. Charles Bernick will be heading it up. The renowned Cleveland Institute for Research will open its second branch in Vegas and downtown will become an epicenter for scientific neurological medical research. CLICK FOR DETAILS.

Lou Ruvo Brain Institute Under Construction
My father was afflicted with Parkinson's disease and I had taken him to so many local doctors, and one after another prescribed so many drugs that seemed to make him worse rather than better. In my search to try to make sure that my father's symptoms were as minimal as possible, and his quality of life as good as could be, I found Dr. Charles Bernick, who was a welcome breath of fresh air, and a kind, caring, and analytical doctor - a good listener - a competent thought processor. We "detoxed" my father from the myriad of drugs, and put him on vitamin and herb therapy along with a small dose of his Parkinson's meds. I was impressed with the level of care and course of treatment Dr. Bernick prescribed, compared to the rest of his peers who would write a script - change a dose and in a flash we were out the door.
Las Vegas and the Lou Ruvo Brain Center have an amazing scientist and a caring physician at the helm of this new era in the evolution of Las Vegas. Las Vegas and Henderson NV have a very large aging population because of our attractiveness to retirees: no state income tax, no inheritance tax, warm winters, exciting lifestyle, accessibility via McCarren Airport to other cities, and such wonderful active adult communities and luxurious lock and leave high rise condos on and near the strip.
If this new research facility can help pave the way for cutting edge therapies and treatment and prevention of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases that so very much affect the quality of life of those stricken and their families, it would be a blessing. If Las Vegas could lead the way in the nation as a new hub for medical research, what a welcome diversification from gaming and tourism.
The downtown area of Union Park is home to a new World Market Center, housing designer furniture and accessories to the trade, it will welcome a Jewelry Center and now will be home to one of the nation's foremost medical research faclities. Thank you Mayor Goodman, for your vision and decidation to our great city.
